PROJECT FEATURED IN:

330 kV Côte d'Ivoire - Ghana Interconnection Reinforcement

The 330 kV Côte d’Ivoire - Ghana Interconnection Reinforcement Project is part of the WAPP Coastal Transmission Backbone which aims at establishing a robust interconnection link and corridor for power exchanges among Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Benin/Togo and Nigeria. The national power grids of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire have been interconnected by a 225 kV line since 1983. This line which has been used to stabilize power supply between the two countries is nearing saturation and there is need for a new line parallel to the existing one in order to satisfy the increasing demand for power exchange between Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana. The proposed 330 kV line is approximately 300 km long (177 km in Côte d’Ivoire and 119 in Ghana) and involves the construction of a transmission line, construction of a new substation at Akoupe-Zeudji in the North East of Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire and the construction of a new substation ‘’Dunkwa’’ 2 at Dunkwa-on-Offin in Ghana.

DESCRIPTION

This project forms part of the  priority projects  identified in the ECOWAS Master Plan for the Generation and Transmission of Electrical Energy. The proposed 330 kV line  is approximately 300 km long  (177 km in Côte d’Ivoire and 119 in Ghana) and involves a the construction of a transmission line, construction of a new substation at Akoupe-Zeudji in the North East of Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire and the construction of a new substation ‘’Dunkwa’’ 2 at Dunkwa-on-Offin in Ghana.
